SUMMARY

Wee Siong, Ng is the Urban Systems Lab Head of the Data Analytics Department, Institute for Infocomm Research, Agency of Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and the Principal Investigator of the A*STAR Data Analytics Exchange Platform (“A*DAX”) project. He was also the Head of Data Management Lab, Co-Director of I2R-LTA Joint Lab and Co-Director of I2R-URA Joint Lab. Wee Siong received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from National University of Singapore in 2004. Prior to joining A*STAR, he served as the Chief System Architect of a local start-up IT firm (Singapore), which is specialized in Content Management and Multimedia Processing (i.e., text, images, video and audio), where he held various responsibilities including systems architecting, solutions consulting, project management and sale management. Wee Siong has published 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals and international conference and he has received a Best Paper Award on privacy preservation in streaming data. His current research focuses on Big Data Processing, Urban Logistics, Data Analytics, Stream Processing, Data Privacy, Data Management and Distributed Systems.

Wee Siong has more than 15 years of working experience in the IT, computer science sector. He has received more than $5 million accumulated research grants over the years. He also in charge of developing software product roadmaps, systems development & deployment. He has solid track records on state-of-the-art research in the areas of Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Urban Logistics, Big Data processing, Data Management and practical software development and deployment. He led a team to develop the Data Analytics Exchange Platform had attracted great attention and successfully commercialized.

RESEARCH PHILOSOPHY

Wee Siong’s research philosophy is fairly simple – he believes that research should always be about building and evaluating working prototype systems that address problems encountered by practitioners. His research interests lie on the practical side where the results are there to be seen and can have an immediate impact.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

Wee Siong's major research interests include Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, Big Data Management, Peer-to-Peer data management, Data Privacy and Smart Cities Applications.

GRANT

'Hippocratic Data Stream Cloud for Secure, Privacy-preserving Data Analytics Services (HipCloudS)'. This project is a joint effort between the Institute for Infocomm Research, A*STAR (NG Wee Siong [Principal Investigator, PI, for this project] and the National University of Singapore (TAN Kian-Lee [Co-PI] and Stephane Bressan [Co-PI]). Funding comes from the Science and Engineering Research Council, A*STAR, Singapore (SERC Grant No: 102-158-0037) and has been granted from Aug 2010 to Jul 2013.

PUBLICATIONS

Wee Siong has published over 50 papers in international conferences and journals. Some of these have appeared in prestigious conferences and journals such as SIGMOD, KDD, VLDB, ICDE, IS and WWW.

As a co-rollout member of the development team, contributed to a major software engi­neering effort in PHP, MSVB, C, HTML, Java to create online image management, sharing and purchasing systems.
